Cosmetica Laboratories communication to SAWRO on mass-terminations

Dear community members

SAWRO remains deeply concerned about the mass-termination of community women who had been working at Cosmetica Laboratories Inc. Following our recent post about the mass-terminations and concerns of community women about the impact of COVID-19, SAWRO received a letter from Cosmetica President Ms. L Kuga giving the company’s viewpoints on these issues.

To see the letter, click below:

IN MEMORIUM OF FARIAH CHOWDHURY

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of Fariah Chowdhury. Her passing comes as a profound shock to the community. We convey our deepest condolences to her family and her wide circle of friends.

We have known Fariah since 2008 when SAWRO first started as a community organization. At the time, Fariah was a student who was passionate about advocating against systems of oppression. Throughout her life, she has been a fierce advocate for the rights of non-status immigrants, universal affordable childcare, accessible education, and much more.

Fariah was an accomplished and vibrant woman. She was a mother, a daughter, a teacher, a loved one, and a dear friend. She was a community champion with extraordinary leadership skills and a source of inspiration among younger generations of community activists. Her legacy will carry on in the hearts and actions of all those who knew her.
