Every year SAWRO organizes a series of cultural and social events around both the Bangladeshi and Canadian cultural calendars. These very popular events are part of the matrix of social/cultural supports SAWRO has built up in the community through 10 years of work. These events validate the culture of newcomers and foster confidence among community people about belonging within the Canadian diversity. Community events create opportunities for women and girls to showcase their talents and skills and most importantly, to develop their community leadership capacity. The events have always promoted community cohesion, which is a valuable asset of our community. More recently though, work has been done to develop events which not only celebrate our community but also help build bridges to the larger Toronto community. Event organizers have begun embedding civic issues into the popular entertainments and organizing civic affairs events with a popular character.
