Bivalent Booster Vaccine Information in English and Bengali

Dear Community Members,

Starting Monday, September 26, individuals aged 18 and over, as well as immunocompromised individuals aged 12 to 17, can now receive a bivalent booster dose at a recommended interval of six months (or a minimum interval of three months) since the last dose, regardless of the number of doses already received.

Appointments can be booked through the COVID-19 vaccination portal (https://www.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/) or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre (PVCC) at 1-833-943-3900. Eligible individuals can also book an appointment directly through public health units that use their own booking systems, Indigenous-led vaccination clinics, participating health care providers and participating pharmacies (https://www.ontario.ca/vaccine-locations).

We were excited to participate in Toronto's Labour Day rally with the East Danforth Community Chapter on Monday, September 5, 2022. Precariously employed immigrant women living in the East-Danforth neighborhoods joined the national action to fight for a collective voice. We join our voices with unions and the broader movement to demand justice for all workers - workers in precarious jobs, working women and mothers, immigrant and migrant workers, racialized workers, and so on.

Defend the rights of workers, defend the rights of all!

On Sunday, August 14th, South Asian Women’s and Immigrants’ Services (formerly SAWRO) hosted its first in-person event since the pandemic started in March 2020. This event launched the Financial Literacy and Empowerment Project (funded by the Government of Canada’s Social Development Partnerships Program) and carried out an information and discussion session about financial security and well-being in our community.

Community-women leaders presented the work done by the organization throughout the pandemic, in response to community members’ needs. Our staff and volunteers consulted community members to assess the experiences of financial insecurity and the need for services and supports to promote financial empowerment for low-income and precariously employed immigrant women, seniors, and their families. We had a great discussion with everyone and looking forward to building on these discussions to develop services, workshops, programs and supports that will meet the needs of our members!
